Dress Stress

When Mommatella flew in this weekend, we hoped to say Yes to the Dress. We lost count. Possibly 50 or more? And no luck. This is dress stress. Any advice?! Xoxo-BLC

  5. Keep trying them on! I went round one for fun with mom to just get a feel, then went back once I knew kind of what I wanted and ended up with something completely different than I imagined and it was perfect. Have fun!

  6. Try on the dresses that you thought you didn't like. I had turned my nose up at a dress that my mom chose for me at first and then ended up "accidentally" trying it on and it was fabulous! Good luck on your quest!

  8. Oh my goodness. That's one of the reasons R and I have been engaged forever with no date in sight. I just can't commit to a dress!

My advice to you -- If you have to try on a thousand dresses, hold out for the one that makes you gasp when you see it.

    I know you'll be lovely!!

  9. Just be patient...the perfect dress will find you!

And, don't eat a huge pasta meal before your final fitting (like I did)! Ha!

  10. The SAME thing happened to me! I couldn't find ANYTHING I liked! You have two options: 1) figure out what you like and go to a custom dressmaker or 2) be patient that next season holds the dress you desire!!!

  11. Just keep trying! The right one will come along:) I know it!

  13. you will find it. Trust me when you put it on you will know. I bought the 1st one I tried on. I just knew it was the one. :)

  14. When you find one you like, buy it...if you "keep looking" thinking you'll find something better, you will only find anxiety.

  15. I tried on tons, and got super frustrated. My advice is to go to small boutiques. The smaller selection helped me, and I ended up buying a sample at the Copper Penny in Charleston.

I didn't get the "feeling" when I tried on my dress at first. However, I kept thinking about it and going back to the dress. When I wore it for my bridal portraits and my weddings I knew it was definitely the dress. http://spiceandsass.blogspot.com/2009/08/most-amazing-bridal-portraits.html

  16. Don't get overwhelmed and take it nice and slow. Try on dresses that you don't see yourself in and it may just work. You will find something that you love. It took me about 4 dress shops and a month until I found "the one".

  17. Try on all sorts of different cuts and styles to begin with so you can weed out some types of dresses right away. Also you might be surprised by what looks really good and that you wouldn never think of.

  18. Good luck in your pursuit for the perfect dress...definitely some good advice, about trying on dresses that are opposite from what you thought you'd like, but stay true to yourself. Don't rush into anything, just because you feel pressure to say "yes to the dress". I have several friends who are still trying to sell the first dress they purchases on ebay, after finding "THE" dress months after they made their first purchase. (An expensive ordeal for sure!)

  19. I had to try on a LOT of dresses and went to several stored too. I found one I loved, but it was way too expensive. Eventually I had an image of what I wanted. then I found and knew right away! hang in there. Once you know, you know. Its like finding the groom! :)

  20. Well I happen to know a FABULOUS dress maker/designer in Charleston, who made my debutante dress, my sister's wedding dress, our bridesmaid dresses, and my mom's dress! If you have something in mind she can sketch it out in about two seconds! We were so picky that we had a hard time finding anything too! Good luck and let me know if you want her name and number!

  21. You will KNOW when you find the one!!! Can't wait to see! You will be beautiful in any of them. Love ya!

  22. Are you trying on lots of different cuts or like lots of strapless (for example)? Try on lots of styles even if you think you are set on a certain look.

I always thought I'd have a simple. simple strapless (like J Crew) & ended up w/beaded spaghetti strap gown. I love it still 7 years later. You will know the minute you have it on! ;)

  23. Just try on everything, even if you don't think you will like it. You'll know if it's the right one!

  24. Relax... it will present itself when you least expect it. I'm sure you will find the perfect dress.

  25. Oh gosh that is a lot. I only tried on 10 or less. Best of luck--I know you'll find one!!! xoxo

  26. Well, like so many have said already...just have fun and don't get frustrated.

That is so awesome that your mom has been able to go with you! I was able to go to one of our girly-whirly's (aka theluckiestmrs) wedding dress searches, but she didn't find the one til several shoppes later. It was great when I was finally able to take another trip from GA to KY, to see her try it on...

...and I know you have heard this already...You really will look gorgeous in any of the ones you try on, but you will feel it too when you find the dress of your dreams.

    Blessings & aloha!

  27. You could try a new geography. Like make a trip to New York and go to Mark Ingram's studio. Or something of the sort. If you are open to indy stuff, take a look at the Bride Chic blog, or Weddings Fresh. They both find dresses that are a little out of the ordinary...

  28. Oh no, this is most fun part! I promise! Seriously revel in it!

  29. I just went through this with my sis and no matter what anyone says-YOU WILL KNOW AS SOON AS YOU TRY IT ON. Don't stress, just wait for that feeling and it will come. Can't wait to see it!

  30. I second LPC's suggestion: COME TO NYC! I know it must be frustrating to try on 50 dresses and not find "the one" BUT there's nothing like a good hunt to make life interesting, eh? Just have fun with it! You will be a lovely bride and have nothing to fear!

  31. You will find it! PS I'm so excited you are engaged as well! Looks like you are having a much shorter engagement than me... mine is a longgg 2 yrs! eek! Can't wait to see all your wedding updates

  32. I probably tried on 50 - 75 dresses before I found THE ONE. I had a vision in mind of what I THOUGHT I wanted. One day, I finally let go and took some friends with me and told them to bring me every dress they could find - whether they thought I would like it or not. I tried them all on and in that stack was THE ONE. One that I would've never even looked at twice on the rack. My advice: try on the dresses that you DON'T have in mind.

  33. Try on everything until you get that gut feeling that it's the one. You'll know when that is. Don't just settle for one you like.

  34. Find a salesperson who you think seems knowledgeable. Remember that they do this all day every day...tell her what you think you want/don't want and then let her pull what she thinks would work best for you. When you find the right dress, you just know it's the one for you!

Take your time and don't rush the decision. Also, don't take too many people with you.

When I went dress shopping the clerk had me pull dresses I thought I liked based purely on how they looked on the rack. As I tried them on she took the time to listen to what I liked or disliked about each and then ask if she could pull some more. She pulled one that I don't think I would have ever noticed on the rack and it fit like a glove!

Good luck and make sure to have fun!

  35. Shop for your dress alone. Pick the one you think feels best, looks best and that you Love!
