Suit Yourself

I prefer swimsuits to powersuits. Alas, as my 3L comes to screaching halt, this is my last summer of swimsuits. Barbri at the beach - duh!!! Then it's all powersuits 9-5, 5 days a week. Yves Saint Laurent first put women in suits. Booo!!! Ick!!! Ugh!!! Thankfully Coco Chanel femanized the powersuit. I prefer the like of Jackie O and Elle Woods. As I get ready for my big-girl job, so must my wardrobe. I am on a mission to hunt down frocks, skirts, and feminie, cropped jackets. Lilly Pulitzer makes the one pictured and it has this blurb: "Set a SHINING example of: Chicness. Style for sure. Usually pretty pulled together. Hmmm. Pretty. This jacket will help you send all the right messages." Well that suits me just perfect!!! Do share: where do you suit shop? Xoxo-BLC

  1. All of my suits have come from The Limited. Ann Taylor is a great place for suits, too. I have never bought a suit from there, but I have gotten lots of work appropriate dresses. I am not a fan of this transition in my wardrobe, either.

  2. J. Crew! And surprisingly Talbots had some decent ones at some point.

  3. In my job I don't need suits often but I do love the look of a fitted and cropped blazer with black slacks or even jeans. I've always found really cute ones in the petites section of Ann Taylor Loft!

  5. I have a few basic ones from BCBG. They are timeless and feminine!

  6. Ann Taylor and J Crew for basic suits aka plain suits. My mom has freinds that sell Worth and Etcetera (both great brands that people sell out of their homes, sounds weird but I promise it's not). I have bought some great suits from both lines, and they have a little more "pizzaz" than just a plain ol' black suit.

  7. I couldn't resist this shift and jacket combo from Lilly! While I would looooove to wear it to work this summer I am going to save it and use as my "going away" outfit for my wedding this fall!

I swear by J.Crew suiting!! I find that thier suit basics are the best and stand the test of time. Over the years I have stocked up on Brooks Brothers button down shirts as well as plenty of cashmere sweater sets. Perfect to layer under a suit or to dress down a skirt for a more casual day in the office!

  8. Definitely enjoy your last summer of swimsuits! I know I did, lots of studying Barbri in the sunshine and August after the bar was heaven! My first year out of law school I clerked so I needed suits EVERY day and J Crew was and is my go-to store.

  9. I am not a huge fan of suits, but do love the suiting pieces from Ann Taylor and J. Crew. Brooks Brothers also has some gorgeous seersucker suits--perfect if you start working right after the bar! ;)

  10. Ughhh Barbri...don't remind me!
When I graduated from law school I wanted to dress like elle woods and wear pink tweed suits everyday, but slowly realized I would need to dress more "boring" to get the respect of older attorneys haha.

I have basically lived in Banana Republic suits since I graduated They make incredible suits that are classic, but still have a fun and preppy flair. This winter they had an amazing suit with a big ribbon that went across the jacket, which is super cute. I also was just at the BR outlet and they had an adorable seersucker suit. ( Def check out the BR outlet they still have great fashionable suit options at much cheaper price).

I agree Ann Taylor also has great suit options

  12. Love this post, and that suit! I actually had great success for suits at a broad array of places, from Ann Taylor to Neiman's to Club Monaco, I was lucky in finding them at quite a few spots.

You are going to be smashing in them, that much I know. :)
